SAVE CADBURY

Welcome to the Save Cadbury site.

The sad news is that the deal has happened, and now of course there are the comments that ‘It might not be possible to honour our pledges regarding the local workforce’

Sign the petition, add your message of support, and do your bit for your country! (You can ignore the fields asking for your email and website if you’d prefer to be totally anonymous) Please share this site with as many people as you can too, using the Share button:

There has been some great debate on this site over the last few weeks and I welcome your suggestions as to the direction the site should take now. Boycotts of certain products have been discusssed, do you thing this would be a good forum in which to continue the fight?

I’ve just removed around 50 spammy comments from this list – apologies that they got through our filter!

I can’t believe how people are trying to hijack this post for their own nefarious reasons. I’ve got the comment filter on at the moment, but my favourite for the most ‘off-topic’ comment has nothing to do with save cadbury. It’s a link that the commenter tried to post for live transvestite webcams of all things. Is anyone else getting this kind of silliness?

In response to Neil’s question – yes it is time to start a Kraft boycott. I recall how Simon’s X Factor winner was prevented from getting to No. 1 in the charts due to the efforts of individuals who used the internet very effectively as a tool. Is there anyone out there who could use the internet to hit Kraft where it hurts?

  4. Roger says:

I agree with those who condem the Chairman & board of directors , They are not interested in the workers or keeping work in this country, but only of their own pockets.
Its alright for them, they do not have to look to see where the next meal is comming from when the factorys are closed because there “generous” pay offs will keep them solvent for years to come.
How can we get people back into work in this country when bosses like this continuosly sell off our heritage.

  5. Neil says:

Is it time to start a Kraft boycott?

    Hit them where it hurts!

  6. Rob says:

A real shame. I spent my first 6 years working there in teh eraly 80’s – when it employed about 2000 people! Great memories.

  7. Graeme Kemp says:

A disgrace that anything bad could hapen to this British institution and workers’ jobs.

  8. Pat says:

I just heard about the imminent closure of Cadbury’s in Bristol. What a shame! From today I will refuse to buy any Kraft products including Cadbury. Perhaps others should follow and advise Kraft of our action.

    • Claire says:

I can’t believe they have told such a blatant lie – I will also refuse to buy any Kraft products until they change their mind to keep the Bristol factory open.

Cadbury is part of British culture – it is iconic – we can’t let it be sold!

  13. martin says:

just pure greed of a chairman and board members who don’t care. Their interest is in the size of their wallet at the end of the day and not the caring Cadbury staff. I hope the chairman and co hang their head in shame in what they have done. And they calll themselves British.

  14. Nick Garlick says:

    Lets hope a miracle occurs

  15. Jason says:

    Dentyne
    Hollywood
    Bubbaloo
    Halls
    Cadbury Eclairs

  16. Jason says:

FYI: There is a demonstration in London on TUESDAY Feb 2nd against the sale of Cadbury (the decision is in the hands of the shareholders but the Government is meant to act on our national interests) – see http://www.unitetheunion.org/campaigns/we_love_cadbury_campaign.aspx.

If you’d rather keep Cadbury in this country please try to join in – you can also meet the people who make the stuff…!

[Have you ever walked round Bournville? Built by the company for the workers, it's a gem of a place built for a factory... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory DOES exist...]

  17. jane says:

    Pure greed!

  18. Lois Johnson says:

Yet another example of our country letting our best things slip away to be owned by other countries. Plus the US have no taste in chocolate – it all tastes disgusting over there. I despair…..

  19. Spleaner says:

Keep your hands off of our chocy yer ploppy…

  20. Cadbury’s is a national treasure, it should not be allowed to fall into foreign hands. The people of Britain have voiced their objections to this take-over happening, the British Government are supposed act on the wishes of British people, they should do anything in their power to stop this take-over.

  21. Ginger Peachy says:

There must be something that can be done! Why can’t the gov’t intervene – I wouldn’t mind my taxes going to support Cadbury’s to keep it British!

  22. Rob Williams says:

So where is this petition I’m supposed to sign? Or am I doing it now? Keep Cadbury’s British!

What a shame for the country and the workforece of cadburys

  25. Joe, Tewkesbury says:

    ** SHAREHOLDERS **

Kraft would normally need 90% acceptance from the shareholders to proceed (“fulfil the Acceptance Condition”). IT IS CHOOSING TO REDUCE THE PERCENTAGE FOR ACCEPTANCE TO 50% plus 1 share (i.e. majority shareholding). This makes it much easier for a ‘YES’ vote, but changing the rules allows previous ‘YES’ votes to be withdrawn IF YOU WANT TO.

HAVE YOU ALREADY AGREED WITH THE ORIGINAL OFFER (4 DEC 2009)?
HAVE YOU AGREED WITH THIS OFFER (19 JAN 2010)?
DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR MIND?
ARE YOU A MEMBER OF A CADBURY SHARE SCHEME? (Check your vote!)

    See http://www.transactioninfo.com/kraftfoods/home.php:

    “Reduction of Acceptance Condition

… Cadbury Securityholders who have already accepted the Offer, but whose willingness to accept the Offer is affected by the reduction of the Acceptance Condition, may wish to consider withdrawing their acceptances with respect to such Cadbury Shares promptly.”

NOTE: If 50% or less of shareholders vote NO then the Acceptance FAILS and Kraft must go away empty handed.

If more than 50% vote YES you get a bit of cash and a share in a plastic cheese giant.

[FYI: Kraft shares are doing badly since 7 Sep 2009 to the point that the Final Offer tries to defend Kraft's own financial performance in Section 10; it appears that Cadbury is the better company...].

SOmeome’s getting rich and a lot are going to get a LOT poorer

  27. Jo in Dudley says:

Why do we have to give away everything that makes this country good. Someones getting a big payoff for this I’m sure :-(

  28. Steve , Hampshire says:

    I’mm gonna miss my crunchies….

  29. Jonny- Bristol says:

It makes my blood boil to think that hard working British workers could be fired by gum chewing baseball cap sporting Yanks!

  30. Joe, Tewkesbury says:

    ** BUY MY VOTE **

    To any politician out there…

Promise to keep Cadbury independent & UK-based and I WILL VOTE FOR YOU.

    ** ARE YOU A SHAREHOLDER? **

VOTE ‘NO’ to the takeover of Cadbury by Kraft.

    >> Keep the Cadbury shares you own and still make profit in an ongoing profitable independent UK company.
    >> Save all the Cadbury worker jobs in the UK [See Terry's of York]
    >> Get some Dairy Milk and imagine life without it. Ever tried Hershey ‘chocolate’?

    VOTE ‘NO’.

Only a fool would assume that Kraft will keep things the same. Their history suggests we are about to see the ‘Rape of Cadbury’.

  31. Jason says:

This is the end of Cadbury.

Look at Terry’s of York… sold to the exact same company. How many times before we learn?

  32. pete, Northants says:

I’ve just heard the news that the deal has gone thru, do the shareholders have to vote to agree or is it a doone deal?

  33. Jon says:

I hope they dont change the taste i thought they made cheese not choclate

  34. Sophie, Southampton says:

Save this great Britsh company from the Americans

  35. Debbie, Birmingham says:
